What is a Steward? The primary role of a Steward is to care for the Little Free Library so that it becomes and continues a long life as a vital, engaging resource for our neighborhood and community. Each month we will have a different classroom taking over the responsibilities of the Stewards. They will help maintain the Library box and restock books as needed.
What value does this bring to our students? Adding a Little Free Library to our school is a great opportunity to teach students about the importance of reading. Plus, Little Libraries are great tools to combat the summer slide, and ensure that students have access to books throughout summer break! Research has shown that one of the most successful ways to improve the reading achievement of children is to increase their access to books (McGill-Franzen & Allington, 2009).
